Training Requirements

All licensed family foster homes (including private agency, Children's Administration and licensed relative homes) are required to complete ongoing training during each three year licensing period. Training Requirements Time Frame

On 10/15/2011, DSHS implemented a new training policy for all licensed family foster homes (including private agency, Children's Administration and licensed relative homes) which explains the time frames and training requirements for each licensing period. Training Options

• Fostering Together Support Groups offer monthly trainings on a variety of topics. For a list of groups and trainings visit the Support Group page at http://www.fosteringtogether.org/content/support-groups.
• In-Service classes are provided by contracted trainers on a variety of subjects. For a list of classes visit http://www.dshs.wa.gov/ca/fosterparents/training.asp or see below for a list of these classes.
• SAY/PAY training is required for foster parent who care for children with these behaviors.
• A Video Lending Library is now available to all caregivers, free of charge as an option to fulfill their mandatory training hours. For more information visit

• Video trainings on-line are available to fulfill their mandatory training hours. For a list of trainings visit http://www.dshs.wa.gov/ca/partners/trainingVid.asp.
• The classroom training is provided weekdays, weeknights and weekends to meet the needs of the caregivers. Foster Parent Trainers are located and integrated within the regions statewide.
